A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE WEATHERLEY CENTRE

The Weatherley Centre has been a major part of the Biggleswade social and education scene for almost 40 years and  Herbert Weatherley would be proud of the community building it has become.

In 1971 former managing director of Weatherley Oilgear, Mr Weatherley provided a substantial sum towards the provision of a centre to provide recreational and leisure facilities for the people of Biggleswade.

His money was then put into a trust until the then Bedfordshire County Council offered a site for the centre near Stratton School. The building was officially opened on October 6, 1979.
